Powder Coating Equipment

While the equipment needed for powder coating is considerably more elaborate than a spray can, several companies are now offering kits that make it possible and more affordable for smaller shops. Most commercial powder coating equipment uses a hopper with air bled into the bottom of a tall cylindrical hopper to fluidize the powder (turn it into a cloud of powder) before it is sprayed out. Powder coating equipment is used to spray resin powder onto the surface of a pre-heated component, where the powder fuses and cures producing a protective coating. A variety of vendors sell powder coating spray guns, booth systems and fluid bed equipment as well as powder coating replacement parts. Powder coating is something you can do yourself, if you want to spend the money for the equipment and plan on doing a lot of it.
