Fiber optic sources, including test equipment, are generally too low in power to cause any eye damage, but it's still a good idea to check connectors with a power meter before looking into it. Fiber optic is hard to justify according to some because it is very expensive to add connectors and currently all fiber optic equipment is more expensive than wire. Locate a manufacturer of fiber optic test equipment including power meters, light sources, talk sets, optical length testers, visual fault locators, and test kits. You'll need a few special tools and instruments to test fiber optics.
