Testosterone

The effects of testosterone in humans and other vertebrates occur by way of two main mechanisms by activation of the androgen receptor (directly or as DHT), and by conversion to estradiol and activation of certain estrogen receptors. Testosterone therapy has proven to be a very effective treatment when it comes to regulating or even eliminating the symptoms that are associated with menopause. Testosterone is primarily secreted in the testes of males and the ovaries of females although small amounts are secreted by the adrenal glands. Anabolic steroids (of which testosterone is one) have also been taken to enhance muscle development, strength, or endurance. You should only be treated with testosterone replacement therapy if your blood test shows a low testosterone level.
