Insomnia
A person with insomnia has difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, or they may wake up frequently during the night, or wake up earlier than desired the next morning. Insomnia typically results in symptoms such as daytime fatigue, irritability, poor memory, lower productivity, and even a decrease in the quality of family and social life. Treatments for insomnia usually attempt to address the underlying cause of insomnia. For example, napping during the day may make it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep during the night. Reducing day time naps may reduce the experience of insomnia. Similarly, drinking caffeine during the day or particularly late in the day closer to bedtime, may diminish the ability to sleep. Reducing or elminating caffeine intake may help. Other treatments may include more exercise or stress reducing activities like meditation.
