Eczema
Eczema is most often characterized by dry, red, extremely itchy patches on the skin. Sometimes you may even break out in a rash. Eczema is fairly common with approximately 1 in 10 people in the world affected by it at some point in their lives. Eczema occurs in both children and adults, but usually appears during infancy. Although there is no known cause for the disease, it often affects people with a family history of allergies. Eczema cannot be cured but most cases can be controlled. The following can help to better control eczema: lifestyle modifications may be necessary to prevent flare-ups, seeing a dermatologist for treatment and using medication as prescribed. The primary goal of treatment is to relieve discomfort by controlling the signs and symptoms. Since eczema is usually dry and itchy, most treatment plans involve applying lotions, creams, or ointments to keep the skin as moist as possible.
