Botox
Botox is used in very small doses both to treat painful muscle spasms, and as a cosmetic treatment in some parts of the world. Botox comes from a kind of bacteria which is highly toxic. For cosmetic treatments such as wrinkle reduction, Botox works for about four months after which time it needs to be re-injected into the skin. For muscle spasms, your doctor may be considering Botox injections to treat certain muscle spasms on your face or eyelids. Recently, the FDA has approved Botox to treat severe underarm sweating that cannot be managed by topical agents such as prescription antiperspirants. This information on Botox is for your information only and is not intended to substitute for the medical expertise and advice of your primary health care provider.
