Antioxidants
Antioxidants may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Damage caused by free radicals may lead to cancer. Antioxidants interact with and stabilize free radicals and may prevent some of the damage free radicals might cause. Antioxidants include beta-carotene, lycopene, vitamins C, E, and A, and other substances. Antioxidants are provided by a healthy diet that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables. You can get antioxidants from all kinds of nuts, fruits, vegetables and meats and even some teas. The specific kind of antioxidants found in tea are called phenols, and they can also be found in a variety of berries and grapes. This information on antioxidants is for your information only and is not intended to substitute for the medical expertise and advice of your primary health care provider.
