Allergy Medication

Approximately 50 million Americans suffer from some form of allergic disease. Some common causes of allergies include dust, pollen, cats, peanuts, and even cockroaches. Allergy treatment usually starts with avoiding the substances (allergens) that cause your signs and symptoms. The main types of allergy medications are: Corticosteroids that help prevent and treat the inflammation associated with allergic conditions; Antihistamines drugs which block histamine, an inflammatory chemical released by your immune system during an allergic reaction; Decongestants to relieve nasal and sinus congestion; Leukotriene modifiers to block the effects of leukotrienes, which are inflammatory chemicals released by your immune system during an allergic reaction; and mast cell stabilizers.
