Radio Frequency Identification

Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is an automatic identification method. You may have seen these tags sewn into garments or attached to software packages at retail stores. This technology relies on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag can be attached to or incorporated into a product (shirt, software package, cereal box, or even a shipping pallet) for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Chip-based RFID tags contain silicon chips and antennas. Passive tags require no internal power source, whereas active tags require a power source. RFID systems are being developed everyday to cut costs, improve inventory controls, improve transportation efficiencies and comply with vendor and buyer requirements.
