Closed Captioning

Closed captioning allows people who are deaf and hard of hearing, learning a new language, beginning readers, in a noisy environment, or otherwise to read a transcript or dialog of the audio portion of a video. In the United States especially, most media monitoring services capture and index closed captioning text from news and public affairs programs, allowing them to search the text for client references. CC is typically the responsibility of the display device when the data stream contains closed captioning information. Closed captioning can be extremely helpful in at least three different situations. Closed captioning displays the dialogue, narration and sound effects of a video.
